Ripple Effect

“Sustained social change begins
locally and spreads through regions, nations, and the world.”

Family and Community Impact:  Our program funding not only benefits the program participants, it benefits their families, peer groups and communities. Strong women and girls create strong families and communities.  Women and girls who improve their self-confidence and skills become a force for change for themselves and others.  Demonstrated successes include:

  • Mothers who are better able to access health-care systems for their families, provide better pre- and post-natal care for their babies, and plan more nutritious meals
  • Girls who model healthier behavior, make better choices and  express greater self-confidence, and who go on to become peer leaders and mentors to other girls
  • Women who are able to find or improve employment, increasing family financial security and serving as role models for their family, friends and community
  • Women who become ambassadors for their program, encouraging other women in their community to participate and improve their situation
  • Mothers with improved English language or educational skills who are better able to help their children with school work and demonstrate the importance of education
  • Girls facing challenging home or street environments who are able to work out their issues in creative and constructive ways and set a path to reach their goals
  • Women who have learned citizenship skills and are able to represent themselves and others as voices in their communities
  • Senior women who are able to live with greater dignity, security and independence
  • Women and girls who have been so motivated by their experience that they return to the non-profit organization as staff, interns, counselors or coaches to share their learnings.

Agency Impact: In addition, our funding and grant requirements frequently help to improve the strength of the nonprofit grantee agency. In their interim reports, grantee agencies typically identify that our grant has provided multiple benefits beyond direct support of the service program.  Additional benefits reported include:

  • Allowed the agency to expand services to new communities or populations
  • Leveraged additional monies
  • Supported collaboration with new partner organizations
  • Improved the organization’s  management, goal setting and strategic planning
  • Increased the visibility of the organization
