Healthy Streets Outreach Program: Women’s Project (Northeast Health Recovery) 

An extension of Healthy Streets Outreach Program, the Women’s Project targets women that are homeless and those with substance abuse issues. Women attend group sessions about health, hygiene, substance use, and communication/life skills.  Transportation vouchers  provide women access to obtain valid identification, attend health appointments, and schedule job interviews.

The Right Moves (TRM)  

 
The program serves to build resiliency and empower at-risk pre-adolescent girls to discourage drug use, truancy, shoplifting, and other reckless or capacity-limiting activities.  TRM empowers girls to make healthy decisions through discussions and activities that decrease isolation, increase social competency, and improve their sense of self-worth.

Health Literacy


Through an innovative “English as a Second Language” class format, low income non-English speaking mothers learn to identify, recognize and properly respond to many of the most critical risks to the health and well being that face their families. The project also provides key communication and response skills to assist in reducing many of the access to care barriers that now confront them.

The Parenting Journey is a parent education program designed to teach parents the skills necessary to raise children in a safe and loving way.  Parenting Journey helps participants gain self-awareness, build self-esteem and increase self-reliance, with the  program’s ultimate goal  to break destructive cycles of behavior and to build the strong foundation needed for their families to thrive.

FaB Factor: Fit & Beautiful


FaB Factor provides consistent access to caring, adult role models and explorations which take girls outside their immediate surroundings and exposes them to post-secondary education, job readiness and community service opportunities.

Sister to Sister/Girls enCourage 


Sister to Sister/Girls enCourage will engage 75 high risk ninth and tenth grade girls in learning to make positive decisions about their health and avoid teen pregnancy, STDs and HIV. Utilizing peer role models the program will increase the knowledge, skills and attitudes found to be necessary in preventing pregnancy, increase girls’ ability to distinguish between healthy and unhealthy risks.

Older Battered Women’s  Program Annual Retreat


In a setting that affords privacy, comfort, safety, and an overall restorative environment, an overnight retreat provides a safe place for women to be free from  the isolation and tension that they experience in their daily lives. This Retreat is an opportunity to enhance self-esteem and promote  independence, well-being and a sense of dignity.

Health Education Pregnancy Prevention Project 


In addition to screening and medical care, a clinic visit at Health Quarters includes time for nonjudgmental conversation, counseling and education.  The process of developing a reproductive life plan helps women to set personal goals about having or not having children. The plan can help ensure that a woman is healthy and ready if she chooses to become pregnant, and help prevent unintended pregnancies if she is not.

Connecting Young Moms is a comprehensive pre- and post-natal program for young pregnant women. The Doulas provide provide free, dependable, experienced, comprehensive support services including  birth planning, labor and birth support, parent education, one-on-one client meetings, and postpartum follow-up.

In Step Summer Camp 

 
In an effort to meet the health and fitness needs of middle and high school girls in Salem and Haverhill, the YMCA offers the “In Step Summer Camp” and provides an important foundation for healthy living, addressing topics such as peer pressure; dating; alcohol & drugs; proper nutrition; fitness; body image – the basic elements girls need to feel good about themselves.

YWCA of Greater Lawrence        

Women’s Health Advocacy Project


The Project goal is to reduce the incidence of death from breast and cervical cancer through community education, outreach, awareness, advocacy and supported referrals
to cancer screening programs along with related follow-up. The Project reaches low income women wage earners who lack adequate health insurance, medically under served Latinas , and women with economic barriers in accessing healthcare services.

The Encore Program 


Encore is a recovery program for women breast cancer survivors. Physical group exercise and warm water pool therapy combined with peer group support meetings help women regain upper body and arm strength and overcome the emotional challenges of depression, low self esteem and/or poor body image as a result of their treatment.
